All Aboard the Tupper Lake Explorer!

Traveling southbound out of the historic village of Tupper Lake, you’ll first encounter a lattice truss bridge built in the late 1800s. The bridge crosses over the Raquette River, and the ruins of an old brick shingle mill can be found on the west side of the tracks just south of the bridge. You’ll travel past Piercefield Flow just a few miles before you reach the ruins of the former Childwold Station, which served the New York Central as well as the junction with the Grasse River Railroad. Continuing south, you will see views of Mt Arab, and may even catch a glimpse of the old fire tower located on top. From that point, you will wind past small Adirondack lakes, expansive marches, beaver flows, and ledge rock carved up by ancient ice glaciers.  Upon reaching your destination of Sabattis, you’ll be greeted by a vast wetland and local wildlife.
